Noelle Wharton-Ayer
Noelle Wharton-Ayer is an artist working in the areas of printmaking and drawing. The artist focuses on ways in which non-traditional media such as hand and machine sewing and paper constructions can be combined with drawing, screen-printing and lithographic techniques. Noelle is currently continuing her exploration of themes regarding location and surroundings. In particular, she is interested in our experience of natural environments and accompanying physical and mental reactions stemming from anxiety and insecurity in regards to these natural spaces. The artist finds particular inspiration in stereotypically ‘Canadian’ activitities, such as treeplanting and cottaging.

Completing a BFA Specialized Honours at York University in the spring of 2010, Noelle is currently focusing on continuing her artistic practice, working both at home and in various print studios, and in collaboration with other artists. This past November, she was the recipient of a two-week Emerging Artist Residency, provided by Atelier de l'Île in Val-David, Quebec, and she will be continuing to work closely with the artist collective InPrint on upcoming projects this year. The artists work has been shown in Toronto galleries including Culturshoc, Sleeping Giant, and Whippersnapper, and was featured in exhibitions in conjunction with Open Studio’s Printopolis in 2010.
